Congratulations on the birth of your child. It is a momentous event in your lives. We are delighted for you and delighted too that you have asked to have your baby baptised.
Baptism situates your baby’s story within the broader story of God’s love for us.
It addresses the issue of meaning at some depth and proposes a value-system by which the followers of Jesus are invited to live.
It anoints your baby as a child of God, created in God’s image and likeness.
It is this which anchors each human being’s dignity and worth.
It implies an active belonging to a faith community who meet regularly to remember who Jesus was and is.
And, because the baby is totally unaware of all this, it places a serious responsibility on you to bring baptism’s significance alive in the life of the child. We remind you of this at the outset so you know what you are committing to and the values you are asked to uphold.
To ensure correct registration this form should be accompanied by a photocopy of the birth certificate of the child and, if you live outside this parish, a letter from your home parish with their consent to the baptism taking place here.
